Michelle Basic Hendry's paintings are inspired by
the decaying rural landscape. Michelle examines the places and structures of
Parry Sound, Muskoka, Simcoe County and nearby regions looking at their
transformation over time and the echoes of the past. The quest for the
story drives Michelle. Many of her subjects are researched and/or are drawn
directly from the families who once occupied the buildings in her paintings.
Her fascination with landscape has taken
her across Canada. She has a passion for both wild places, historic
farms and homesteads. Michelle is exhibiting in the prestigious
19th Annual Autumn Art Sale at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in
October 2009.
Michelle has won awards for her work,
including an Award of Merit from Muskoka Arts and Crafts in 2002 for
stained glass; and in 2005, Michelle won MAC awards for "Best Use
of Colour" and "Best in Show" for her acrylic painting
"Trailside - Hardy Lake Park". She has work in galleries and
private collections in Canada, the U.S. and the UK. Her work can be seen
at the Auburn Gallery of Fine Art in Gravenhurst or at her studio by
appointment. |
