I am my truest self when my hands are in clay. There is a special connection to this medium that, even as a child as young as three, I was deeply driven to express my creativity through clay. As I grew older, my need to explore in nature led me to local creek beds, experimenting with the natural clays found there. Though I had no access to a kiln, I appreciated the temporary beauty of the creations mined from my imagination and produced from the rich colours of the earth. I would watch as each little masterpiece slowly crumbled in the sun over time or washed away with the summer rain. Creative expression and a strong connection with nature have always been a part of my life both in childhood as it is now.

Clay is my freedom. I can loose myself for hours in a piece of clay. My art is spontaneous; there are no preliminary sketches or preconceived ideas of what a piece will be when completed. As I work with the clay, it leads me through its evolution from a chunk of raw material to a finished piece of art. I am always inspired by what emerges from the clay, tickled out with my fingertips.

I continue to draw inspiration from nature and its rich colour, texture and endless shapes. My fascination with the human form finds its way into many of my sculptures by incorporating faces, hands and organic shapes with natural elements such as leaves, wood grain and colour. I respect clay and the possibilities that each earthy chunk holds.
