| My
love of art has indeed been a lifelong affair. As a
child, my parents recognized my devotion early and I was
sent to study in Minnesota at a school with a strong
reputation in visual arts. Upon my return to Winnipeg, I
attended The University of Manitoba, School of Fine
Arts, as a painting and printmaking major, before moving
to the Toronto area and graduating with honours from the
Ontario College of Art and Design in1997.
I have worked
for many years as a professional artist, utilizing the
creative tools of printmaking, painting, drawing,
photography, pottery and three-dimensional construction.
Combining
mediums in an original and unique manner has been my
artistic focus. Curiosity and excitement in the
development of new techniques, have influenced my own
work and made for unusual and creatively satisfying
projects for myself, and as an art educator, for the
students I pass this on to.
I have been
teaching printmaking in a wide variety of methods at
various venues across Ontario for a number of years.
This includes Haliburton School of the Arts, McMichael
Canadian Art Collection, Open Studio, a Toronto
printmaker's co-op, and a wide variety of educational
institutions and galleries, many right here in Muskoka.
I have also conducted several Ontario Arts Council's
'Artist in Education' programs. It gives me great
pleasure to pass on techniques I have learned, and
helped develop over the years. The excitement I see in
my student's faces as they pull their first print offers
me great pleasure. The sharing of knowledge is how we
grow, change and develop as artists.
