Beautiful designs are etched into non-fertile domestically raised Emu shells which are supplied by a local farmer. When the
dark green colour is etched off, lovely shades of a lighter green are exposed. Once that is worked through, the soft white of the
inner lining is exposed. By using a combination of these colours, a variety of images with a Muskoka theme -- loons, herons,
butterflies, flowers, trilliums, and our memorable pine trees -- are etched onto the shell's surface. Some designs are available
as clocks and a variety of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.
All Muskoka Emu etched eggs come with a choice of bases ranging a circular Pyrex egg holder to recycled wood painted
black or in shades of blue-green that give the appearance of stone. The wooden bases have a center post to added stability.
Muskoka Emu Etchings was created in the winter of 1997. The etched eggs can be found at Cathy's Corner Store in Milford
Bay, Ontario, which also displays the crafts of other local artists. Cathy's hand-crafted eggs can also be viewed at the Birds
Mill Mews located in Bracebridge, Ontario, as well as at Muskoka Arts and Crafts' Spring Members' Show and Christmas
Show & Sale. In 1998 and 1999, Cathy's Emu Etchings were shown at Muskoka Arts and Crafts'
Annual Summer Show,
In 1998 three eggs were displayed at the Canadian national Exhibition in Toronto, Ontario.
