| I love the
process of weaving, the way the warp and weft cross each other
to make something new. Loom weaving is what started me off on my
present path. I love the feel of the fabric as it grows on the
loom. The different fibres creating colour and texture. I have
always admired baskets and took a workshop with my weaving guild
in 1986 and was immediately hooked!
The baskets that I make
are traditional in style but I like to add my own signature to
them. I dye my materials before I weave and stain them after
they are completed. I like to add something to my baskets that
make them just a little different, like a piece of driftwood for
a handle or a pattern from my loom weaving that combines both my
worlds.

| The process
of planning the project, getting the materials together, whether
it is searching them out from my shelves or from suppliers,
dying the material if need be and putting it all together is
always exciting. The act of weaving, the methodical over and
under while watching the piece grow is very satisfying. I
sometimes don't want to finish the piece as I enjoy the process
so much.
Making an item that is
useful, not too frivolous, but that is also incredibly
beautiful, wonderful to touch and fabulous to use, gives me
great satisfaction. I get so much pleasure when someone
purchases one of my pieces because they, too, think it is so
beautiful and that is also very useful. |
