I recreate furniture through intuitive
expression.
I trust that still, small voice that
says: "This might work and I'll try it." This is how I transform used
furniture and accessories to a new life. A summer course at the Haliburton
School of Fine Art cemented a growing interest in furniture painting.
Older furniture and accessories have
their own distinct character. As a result, each piece that I work with is
different and I enjoy the uniqueness of each one.
I work one step at a time.
Seldom do I have the finished design or total colour scheme in mind.
First, the layers of the old finished are removed to reveal the
structure of the piece. I mix my own paint colours and then begin the
layers of colour to build a base for the design. Not being attached to
the outcome allows for new possibilities to come forward with each step
of the process. This spontaneous way of working enables me the freedom
of expression and an end result that tends to be whimsical, carefree and
is always a happy surprise.
I would be pleased to discuss
your design ideas with you, whether it is a piece of furniture you own
or one that I may have.
